Chat, Chuckle and Chomp at Kent’s newest comedy club

After you’ve spent a busy day at Kent 2020 Vision LIVE on 14th May, what better way to wind down than by joining your peers for an early dinner, informal drinks and some stand-up comedy?

Kenny's Comedy Club (Small)Kenny’s Comedy Club is a brand new feature of the Kent 2020 experience, providing an opportunity to kick back, catch up with old acquaintances and make new ones over some drinks and a few laughs. The atmosphere and dress code will be strictly informal, providing a relaxed environment for a different type of business conversation.

If you’ve been running a stand in the exhibition, you could use the event to reward your staff for a long day on their feet. Or if you’ve been a visitor, you can miss the rush hour traffic and extend your network, while having some fun at the same time!

Great acts for this inaugural outing include Phil Kay (surreal Scotsman), Richard Todd (tall and ridiculous), Tom Ward (handsome and modern), Sophie Hagen (wise, womanly and naughty) and witty compere Robbie Ormrod.

PLUS: We are delighted to continue our support for the Kevin Lynes Apprenticeship Scheme (KLAS) via our special charity raffle for some great prizes such as a Night in the West End, a Day with the Kent Police and tickets to local attractions.

The Kevin Lynes Apprenticeship Scheme (KLAS) Charity Auction is now LIVE!

The Kevin Lynes Apprenticeship Scheme (KLAS) Charity Auction is now LIVE!

Bidding is now open for the amazing lots we have up for grabs in the KLAS auction, supporting disadvantaged young people in Kent that want to access an apprenticeship scheme to improve their skills and work prospects.

The auction will take place during the Evening Reception, immediately after Kent 2020 Vision LIVE 2013 on 25th April – but you do not need to attend to take part. You can download a copy of the auction catalogue and bidding form in advance by clicking here.

Sealed bids for the first group of lots can be placed between now and 6.15pm on the day of the auction and proxy bids can also be registered for the lots to be auctioned live at the Evening Reception if you are unable to attend.

Of course, if you want to be at the auction in person and experience the full buzz and excitement you can still book tickets for the Evening Reception by calling Bridget on 01892 820946.

All monies raised will go to the new Kevin Lynes Apprenticeship Scheme (KLAS), set up in memory of the late Kevin Lynes to recognise his many contributions to the county of Kent. KLAS is an enhancement to the existing Bursary Scheme for Apprentices, providing a special fund for the benefit of young people, resident in low-income households in Kent, who require funding to benefit from an Apprenticeship Scheme.

HAPPY BIDDING!

Note: You can still register for your FREE place at Kent 2002 Vision LIVE at: www.kent2020.co.uk

New Feature: Charity Auction in memory of Kevin Lynes

This year there’s a new direction for the evening event traditionally held after the main Kent 2020 Vision LIVE exhibition and conference…

To recognise the significant support and contribution the late Kevin Lynes gave to Kent 2020 Vision LIVE we are holding a charity auction in aid of the charity set up in his memory – The Kevin Lynes Apprenticeship Scheme (KLAS). An enhancement to the existing Bursary Scheme for Apprentices, KLAS is a special fund for the benefit of young people, resident in low-income households in Kent, who require funding to benefit from an Apprenticeship Scheme.

Support for the auction has been phenomenal, with over 20 lots donated – many of which money (usually) can’t buy. The right bid can secure some truly unique opportunities including:

  • A day making ice cream with Taywells
  • Cheese making with Winterdale Cheese
  • Behind-the-scenes tour of Chatham Dockyard
  • A day working with Kent Police
  • Private tour of HadlowGardens with their Head Groundsman
  • Group BMX session with a British Cycling coach at the new CycloPark
  • Fantastic wine lover’s tour with Chapel Down Vineyard

Plus a range of other great items on offer, including Hornby trainsets, tickets to Kent attractions and events, luxury hampers and even a stand at Kent 2020 Vision LIVE 2014!

To hold together what promises to be a fun and lively evening we are delighted to have the services of Kent’s most famous auctioneer, Clive Emson. In his own eponymous building at the Kent Event Centre, Clive will be running the bidding and keeping everyone in line, adding his own personality and humour to the event.

In addition to the auction, the evening will be a fantastic way for those that were at the event to unwind and reflect on the day and network with their peers from the Kent business community. All this in a relaxed atmosphere, with good honest food and a glass or two of wine.

Tickets cost just £25 + VAT, including dinner and drinks.

Book your place now by downloading a booking form at: www.kent2020.co.uk/application.html.

Newsflash: Kent gets connected with superfast broadband

One of the biggest infrastructure projects in Kent’s history was announced yesterday, as better broadband is delivered across the county by Kent County Council and BT – starting this year!

The partnership is backed by £10m of council funding £9.87m from central government and £19.6m from BT. The contract was signed on Monday, following the enormously successful ‘Make Kent Quicker’ campaign – which saw thousands of people sign up and say they wanted more from their broadband.

Championed by the late Kevin Lynes of KCC, the Make Kent Quicker project was set up to bring broadband to every home and business in Kent and Medway – and make sure that most will be able to access the next generation of superfast services. Without this project, many rural business and communities would continue to have either no or very slow broadband services as there are no market-led plans to upgrade infrastructure in many rural parts of the county.

Now, the combination of public funding and private investment, alongside existing roll-out plans, will make sure that at least 95% of properties in Kent will have access to higher-speed fibre broadband by the end of 2015 (with over 90% having access to superfast speeds of 24mbps and above) – and every property in the project area able to access download speeds of at least 2mbps.

Surveyors will be making their way across Kent during the rest of this year with 2014 and 2015 expected to be particularly busy as hundreds of miles of fibre are installed, helping to keep the county connected and competitive.

As a result of this new contract, thousands of homes and businesses in Kent and Medway stand to benefit and the improvement could deliver £1.5bn to the county’s economy each year.

Roger Gough, KCC Cabinet member for business strategy, performance and health reform, said: “This is great news for Kent and marks the start of a particularly large-scale, landmark infrastructure project for Kent, which is about making sure that no one misses out on broadband. Just as the thousands of miles of rail and roads are essential in bringing the county together, this is an essential network for Kent. I am looking forward to seeing how, by working with BT, we can keep the county connected and competitive for the future. I would like to thank everyone who got involved in the ‘Make Kent Quicker’ campaign, which was crucial in showing that the county wanted the improvements that are now on their way.”

Bill Murphy, BT’s managing director for next generation access, said: “This is a fantastic achievement for Kent and will position the county as a broadband leader – and ahead of the chasing pack. BT is delighted to be partnering them on this far-reaching plan. This beautiful county, home to the iconic White Cliffs of Dover, will now start to see high-speed fibre broadband roll-out extended and this will enable more local businesses to think global as well as enhancing education and transforming the way consumers use the internet.”

Communications Minister Ed Vaizey said: “Kent is now well and truly on the way to providing better broadband access and speeds to the entire county. This project will deliver superfast broadband to thousands of homes and businesses and bring a massive boost to the local economy.”

The benefits to Kent businesses will be significant, facilitating a new wave of innovation across the county and delivering a major competitive advantage over other regions. You can preview some of the most important opportunities that will emerge at the Tomorrow’s Business Showcase within this year’s Kent 2020 Vision LIVE on 25th April: www.kent2020.co.uk.
